Aerospace Joint Apprenticeship Committee

As the Aerospace Joint Apprenticeship Committee (AJAC) program develops, so will the number of AJAC committee members. The AJAC committee hopes to identify members from all regions of Washington State. Voting members of the AJAC committee are currently:

David Bowen was born in Rock Island, IL in 1960. Raised in Davenport, IA and Colorado Springs, CO. David joined the Marine Corps in 1977 at Parris Island. He switched career fields and became a CH-53 helicopter mechanic and air crewman. After six years he received orders to FASOTRAGURLANT, Brunswick, ME to fill one of four newly created Marine Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape school instructor billets.

In 1990 David was assigned to Marine Helicopter Squadron One and began filling different assignments on the “Green Side” - Flight Line NCOIC, Quality Assurance Representative, and NATOPS Instructor/Evaluator. He was granted top secret clearance in 1992 and reassigned to the Executive Flight Detachment VH-60 Flight Line. Awarded the Presidential Service Badge, David flew VIP missions, the highlight flying Pope John Paul II at the Catholic Convention in Denver, CO. David filled critical leadership and inspection billets within the Executive Flight Detachment until 1994. Retiring in 1998 at the rank of Gunnery Sergeant, he flew up until two weeks before retirement.

Currently David is the Manager of Technical Training and HR Operations at Aviation Technical Services in Everett, Washington. ATS is the largest third party commercial aircraft repair station in North America. In his spare time David enjoys mountaineering, teaching basic mountaineering in the springtime for the Boeing Alpine Club and playing golf.
Jesse Cote

Jesse went to work for Foss Maritime in 1989. He became active in District 160 of the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers in 1992 and has served in numerous Local and District Offices and Committees. He entered the Marine Machinists Apprenticeship Program at Renton Technical College in 1993 from which he successfully exited in 1996. In 1999, Jesse became a full-time Union Representative/Organizer working for District 160. In 2004, he accepted the Union Representative/Director of Organizing position with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, District Lodge 751. Jesse has worked within the trades for 19 years. Jesse is serving as the Chairperson for the Aerospace Joint Apprenticeship Committee.
Tom Lux

Tom Lux
IAM/Boeing Joint Programs


Tom Lux has thirteen years experience as a Journeyman-level Machine Parts Inspector. He has worked with Western Gear Corporation in Everett WA, Briggs Technologies in Lynnwood, WA and the Boeing Aircraft Company in Everett, WA. As a Lead at Briggs Technologies and the Boeing Company, Tom trained other Machine Parts Inspectors. Tom also spent six years as Site Coordinator before becoming an Administrator five years ago with the IAM/Boeing Joint Programs Quality Through Training Program. Tom’s training has been both on the job and company in-house. Tom also serves as a Labor Representative on the IAM/Boeing Joint Apprenticeship Committee.
Nan Mitzel

Nan Mitzel is currently the Human Resources Manager for TECT Aerospace, Northwest Division and a Graduate of Central Washington University with a degree in Education. Nan’s twenty-five year experience as a Human Resources Professional and Facilities Manager has been integral in developing TECT Aerospace’s, Human Resources Department infrastructure. Her department serves over three-hundred employees. Nan serves as an Employer Representative on the AJAC Committee. Nan has lived in the NW most of her life. She is married to Ron Mitzel and has two sons, Ryan and Paul. Nan enjoys the outdoors, travelling and spending time with family and friends. In 2008, she participated in the Susan G. Komen, 3 day-60 mile, Walk for the Cure.
