YOU are the future of aerospace. There is a shortage of skilled workers in aerospace. This creates an exciting and unique opportunity for students wanting a career in the aerospace and advanced manufacturing industries and skilled workers eager to pass on knowledge and skills to a whole new generation of employees. We at the Aerospace Joint Apprenticeship Committee (AJAC) invite you to explore our site and find your place in the future of aerospace and advanced manufacturing. Check out the I AM Washington Video from the Center of Excellence for Aerospace and Advanced Materials Manufacturing and the Northwest Center of Excellence for Marine Manufacturing and Technology.
Tacoma Machinist Apprenticeship joined with AJAC in 2009. AJAC provided matching funds with Bates Technical College in Tacoma, WA to purchase a HAAS machine for the Machining Apprenticeship Program. Purchases like this provide the needed equipment for world class training.
AJAC worked together with several employers and community colleges in the greater Seattle, Everett, Tacoma and Spokane, Washington areas to create a standardized accredited machining curriculum for community colleges across Washington state. A special thank you to Brandon Morehouse - TECT, John Powers, Ron Benson and John Saltzgiver - Pioneer Human Services, Marilyn Young-Skogland - Manufacturing Industrial Council, Bob Storrar - Bates Technical College, Kim Alexander - South Seattle Community College, Sharon Buck - Everett Community College, and all the others who supported this effort. Your work has made a difference!
AJAC is developing and implementing Washington State registered apprenticeship programs for 10 aerospace and advanced manufacturing occupations. AJAC is currently offering programs in King, Snohomish, Pierce and Spokane counties and the tri-cities.
AJAC is taking its training on the road across Washington State with its Advanced Inspection and Manufacturing Mobile Training Unit (AIM-MTU). This 53-foot classroom on wheels will travel across Washington State to provide apprenticeship and just-in-time technical short-term training to the next generation of tradespeople in the aerospace and advanced manufacturing industries. It will offer modularized training throughout the entire manufacturing process from product design to inspection and reporting. Click for more information.
The Aerospace Apprenticeship program is being developed with great collaboration from our partners in industry, Washington state agencies, the community college system, high school districts, worksource, and more.
