No Apprenticeship? No Problem.

Apprentices will hand write commands and write programs for mills using G & M codes. The student will apply radius commands, cutter compensation, cutter path, drill, bore and tapping cycles and apply rough cycles and sup programs while demonstrating basic program editing. Apprentices will demonstrate their understanding of G-code programming and troubleshooting by accurately hand writing a program for various engineering drawings.

Apprentices will develop a working knowledge and practical application of algebraic processes as they relate to manufacturing. They will identify and understand the applications of formulas to shop problems, learn to manipulate formulas, simplify expressions and solve linear equations. Discussions will include adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions, ratio, proportion and percentages. Number lines and Cartesian coordinates will also be covered.

Learn to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics, as well as practice basic drafting. Drawings studied in this class will come both from the text and from industry, and will include machining, fabrication, assemblies, and fluid power systems (only for Automation/Maintenance program).

Students will be able to analyze capacity, demand, equipment, inventory, staffing, and budget reports. They be able to compose budgets for staffing, materials, and funding resources. They will gain a more in depth understanding of how to schedule staff, project tasks, procurement needs, and financial resource needs. Students will explain how production plans are built, including tools for prioritization and contingency planning. Students will learn best practices related to scheduling, estimating costs, forecasting workload, planning resource use, setting department goals, and monitoring progress. They will engage in effective debriefing communication to maintain continuous improvement of processes. 5 hours of safety in this course.

In this course, students will describe types of inventory and develop an understanding of the financial accounting of inventory. They will also learn where to locate inventory and ways to control its location. Students will explore the uses, advantages, and disadvantages of automated inventory systems such as bar codes and RFID. They will describe ways to manage inventory and explain causes of inventory system failures as well as ways to fix the problems. Students will also explore some of the basic risks of supply chain management as well as solutions to some common problems. Finally, students will explore the importance of warehouse safety by focusing on injury prevention and reporting, forklift safety, and ergonomics. 8 hours of safety in this course.

No. Enrollment is based on seat availability within each existing apprenticeship class. Early inquiry is recommended to secure placement.

Yes. Participants must complete the full 50 instructional hours, including all quizzes and exams. Course expectations, attendance standards, and performance requirements are the same as those for registered apprentices.

Took a class and later decided to become an apprentice? Your coursework won’t transfer automatically — you’ll need to apply for Credit for Prior Experience (CPE), which AJAC’s committee reviews and approves on a case-by-case basis.

This option is available to Washington State manufacturing employers who wish to enroll experienced employees in select courses. It is designed for individuals who do not need or qualify for a full apprenticeship program.

All manufacturing companies in Washington State have access to our classes. There is a $200 per employee discount for individuals who work for a company AJAC partners with. Not a partner with AJAC? Reach out to our team to officially partner with AJAC and you can receive the same benefits as our current partners. 

AJAC will email the invoice to the company directly. Before the first class begins, AJAC will work with the individual to make sure the invoice is being sent to the right individual at the company for payment. Questions about payment? Please contact our billing department. 

Classes are held online. Depending on the class the student enrolls in, class will be held on either a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday from 5pm-9pm (PST) for 12 weeks, or until the 50 instructional hours are completed. 

Yes. Students may cancel by emailing AJAC before 5:00pm on the Friday of the second week of class.
