5 Questions with Amandalyn Rubio

We’re excited to welcome Amandalyn Rubio to AJAC as our new Youth Programs Manager. With nearly 20 years of experience in public education, along with a background in CTE, worksite learning and nonprofit leadership, Amandalyn brings a deep understanding of how to help students turn their interests into real career opportunities.

Her work is all about connecting students with the right people, resources and pathways to help them succeed after high school. And she’s already enjoying one of the best parts of her new role: meeting young people who are interested in apprenticeship and getting to help them see what’s possible.

We asked Amandalyn five questions to get to know the person behind the role, from the career moment she’s most proud of to the job she dreamed about as a kid.

What is your proudest career moment? 

It’s an ongoing one, but the absolute best is running into former students. Much of my work is about helping young people explore opportunities and make informed decisions about their futures. Hearing about their accomplishments, challenges, and the directions they’ve taken reminds me that even small moments of guidance can have a lasting impact. 

What’s the best part of your job so far? 

Getting to interact with the youth interested in apprenticeship pathways. A close second would be the day-to-day interaction with various schools and districts supporting students in K-12 with the aim of getting them dialed in for postsecondary.

Why did you choose your profession? 

When I graduated from high school, I attended a community college before transferring to a four-year public university. At the time, I didn’t know exactly what profession I wanted to pursue, but I did know that I wanted a career centered on helping people. That purpose has guided me throughout my career, and I continue to ground myself in every role with that original intent.

What was your dream job growing up? 

Supreme court justice. I loved the idea of combining service, leadership, and thoughtful problem-solving.

What do you like to do outside of work? 

Read. I dip into all genres but my favorite is book-to-screen adaptations.
