Spokane Nearly Sweeps Awards at AJAC Graduation

Carlwin Amlej receives the adult apprentice of the year award at AJAC's graduation on June 14, 2024.

Each year, AJAC’s annual commencement ceremony celebrates individuals who have made significant impacts on their community, apprentices, and professional careers. This year, the ceremony highlighted exceptional achievements by presenting awards for Adult Apprentice of the Year, Youth Apprentice of the Year, and Instructor of the Year.

Youth Apprentice of the Year: Andrew Keevy

Andrew Keevy, a Youth Apprentice from Lynch NW, began his journey in a local skills center’s Advanced Manufacturing class. Initially shy and unfamiliar with his peers, Andrew’s determination saw him greatly improve his public speaking and presentation skills, culminating in a silver medal at the SkillsUSA Precision Machining competition.

On the job, Andrew mastered various equipment, including a fiber laser, Waterjet, belt grinder, surface grinder, and CNC machines. His employer praised his work ethic, quick learning, and problem-solving abilities, highlighting his potential in CAD work, shop management, and process improvement. Andrew’s passion for manufacturing, determination to grow, and positive attitude earned him the admiration of his colleagues and the title of 2024 Outstanding Youth Apprentice of the Year.

Adult Apprentice of the Year: Carlwin Amlej

The 2024 Outstanding Adult Apprentice of the Year award went to Carlwin Amlej from Travis Pattern and Foundry. In the classroom, Carlwin was recognized for his involvement, application of class knowledge to his work, helpfulness to other students, and gratitude for learning opportunities.

On the job, Carlwin transformed from struggling with a stick welder to becoming one of the best welder fabricators in the maintenance department. His significant contributions included refurbishing machinery, rebuilding furnaces, and working on various assets with exceptional skill and dedication. His supervisor commended Carlwin’s work ethic, leadership, positive attitude, and ability to think under pressure, making him a deserving recipient of the award. Carlwin’s contributions are deeply valued, and there is great anticipation for his continued growth at Travis Pattern and Foundry.

Instructor of the Year: Daniel Clark

The 2024 AJAC Instructor of the Year award was presented to Daniel Clark, recognizing his profound impact on his students and the organization. Daniel began his career in manufacturing as a manual and CNC machinist in the aerospace industry and later became an instructor at North Idaho College before joining AJAC a few years ago.

Known for his kindness, inquisitiveness, and engaging personality, Daniel has been a dedicated and passionate educator. Despite preferring in-person teaching, he has willingly taught online to support AJAC’s mission. His students praise his enthusiasm, knowledge, and ability to explain concepts clearly, creating a safe and supportive learning environment. Daniel’s contributions have significantly shaped the organizations he has served and left a lasting impact on his students.

Please join us in congratulating Daniel, Andrew, and Carlwin for their outstanding achievements and shining a spotlight on the amazing apprentices and instructors we have in Spokane!
